One-on-one coaching

Sometimes only one-on-one assistance will do - especially when you want real-time targeted solutions, strategies, and support for your unique situation.

I have found that there  is one thing that all people who come to coaching have in common - a desire to make some kind of change in their life. The one-on-one coaching relationship is the ideal format for turning that intention into action. The one-on-one coaching relationship is safe, confidential, supportive, and non-judgmental. In this relationship I can give you my undivided attention, and discover your unique learning and communication style so that I can coach you in the most effective way.

My one-on-one coaching sessions are typically conducted over the phone, with three forty-five minute sessions scheduled per month (during the first three weeks of the month). Arrangements for just-in-time "on-demand" coaching can also be made. Special arrangements for in-person or "on-site" coaching are also possible.

I specialize in coaching the following types of individuals and situations:

One-on-one mentoring

I mentor new managers, newly-promoted managers, or those aspiring to move into management who need to learn fast. If you want the support of someone who has "been there" and can help you gain the necessary management/leadership and communication skills, business savvy, perspective and confidence to succeed, one-on-one mentoring is for you.

My one-on-one mentoring sessions are typically conducted over the phone, with three forty-five minute sessions scheduled per month (during the first three weeks of the month). Arrangements for just-in-time "on-demand" mentoring can also be made. Special arrangements for in-person or "on-site" mentoring are also possible.

The difference between mentoring and coaching is not in how it is conducted, but in the areas of focus and in the type of support that mentoring provides.

  • In management mentoring, the primary focus is on workplace and career issues, and on what it takes to create success in the workplace environment.

  • Because of my deep level of expertise and experience in the areas of management/leadership and communications, I can offer skill training, practical tools and techniques, perspective, and "lessons learned" that can help you see the real issues, remain focused on what's important, and avoid common pitfalls.

Frequently, those who ask for mentoring in order to "hit the ground" running in their management career soon broaden their interest to personal development in other areas as well (e.g., improving personal relationships, life planning, creating a personal vision, identifying and eliminating things that are dragging them down, setting and achieving personal goals, changing and improving in other areas of their life). This transition to "coaching" is seamless. It is simply a change in emphasis.

Group coaching

Group coaching is ideal when a small number of individuals (usually four to six) share a common set of interests and issues and a desire to pursue personal or professional development in a supportive group setting. The group forms to focus on a topic area of mutual interest, for example: how to develop a strong personal foundation, advanced communication and relating skills, advanced personal development, financial independence, or life design.

Group sessions are usually conducted on the phone or at an "on site" location provided by a requesting organization. Groups typically meet for one hour, three times a month (during the first three weeks of the month), although other schedules can be negotiated at the time the group is formed.

A specific topic is selected for each session, either before the session or at the very beginning of the session. During each session individual members receive coaching on their own specific issues related to the selected topic, and others learn and grow from listening to, and contributing to, the discussions.
