Management Coaching

As a manager you face a unique challenge because your job requires that you produce results through others. That means that to be effective you must not only master several key skills (e.g., planning, directing, reporting, coordinating, motivating, problem solving, and communicating), you must also inspire confidence in those who report to you and in your own superiors. Unfortunately, when YOU have a question, want to brainstorm or strategize, need some objective feedback on your personal style, or want to upgrade your management, leadership or communication skills there is often no one in your organization it is "safe" to talk to without risking looking incompetent or weak.

As a Management Coach I serve as your thinking partner, objective sounding board, confidential advisor, and skills trainer.  Drawing on my 20-plus years of experience as a senior manager and executive, I can provide you clear feedback to your questions, help you to upgrade your management, leadership and communication skills, and stay focused on key priorities so that you can advance quickly and avoid common pitfalls.

Here are some of the common situations faced by the managers I coach:

  • Need to produce results though others - but struggle to get cooperation?

  • Concerned that you have the "title" and the responsibility but not the necessary power and authority?

  • Need to influence at a higher level but question where to start?

  • Taken on a new role and need to make a big impact quickly?

  • Find yourself struggling to maintain your position within the power hierarchy?

  • Need to build and lead an effective team - but it's not your strength?

  • Need support in mastering some of the basic management skills including staff management/motivation, team building, reporting, problem solving, prioritizing, coordinating and scheduling?

  • Need to increase the effectiveness of your communications?

  • Want to refine your skills in "managing up"?

  • Want to effectively position yourself for your next career move?

Executive Coaching

More and more executives are turning to coaching to give them the edge.

The coaching relationship creates a space where you can explore issues that are important to you and explore who you are as a leader without the pressure to perform.  It is a place where you can say anything, be anything, and bounce ideas around - a place where you can be authentically yourself without judgment, and be fully heard.

As your Coach I serve as your confidential thinking partner and objective sounding board, and provide support and objective feedback in brainstorming, strategizing, prioritizing, focusing, and problem solving. I support you in exploring and accessing your own wisdom, greatness, and "truth."

Many top-level executives do their best thinking by talking out loud. Unfortunately, they often find themselves with no one to talk to when their ideas are in the development stage and not yet ready for "prime time." The coaching relationship provides a safe and confidential environment in which you can try out new visions, concepts, and plans without concern for politics or having to "look good."

Executives also turn to coaching in situations such as these:

  • Encountering roadblocks to success but aren't sure exactly what is getting in your way?

  • Finding that people don't seem to hear or "get" what you are
    trying to say?

  • Trying to develop new strategies or management structures?

  • Looking to enhance your leadership skills?

  • Trying to creatively manage growth and change in your organization?

Jane specializes in Executive Coaching and consulting for Corporate and Nonprofit senior managers, executives, and organizations. Key areas of focus include:

  • Strategy development and implementation

  • Management and leadership skill development

  • Organizational development and team building

  • Effective communication

Mentoring

I mentor new managers, newly promoted managers, or those aspiring to move into management who need to get up to speed quickly.

Today's managers are often promoted from technical or artistic backgrounds and given no formal training in management. They are expected to know the management skills and the communications "rules" without benefit of formal training or years of experience. I help such managers gain the necessary management/leadership and communications skills, business savvy, and confidence to succeed.

My clients tell me that working with me as their mentor is like having an experienced manager/executive "in their back pocket." With a mentor, when you are in doubt about how to handle a particular situation at work, you have access to the wisdom of someone who has experienced what you are facing and can serve as a guiding voice as you continue to search for your own voice. The mentor relationship is rich with learning through shared experiences. The learning is not just academic, it is practical and in context. I provide a safe space where you can ask the "dumb" questions and try out new skills and approaches without risk.

Here are some other reasons you may want to consider Management/Executive Coaching or Mentoring:

  • Are you looking to hone your management, leadership, and communication skills?

  • Are you curious to learn the unspoken rules for effective communication at work?

  • Do you need some perspective on working in the corporate environment?

  • Do you need to be able to:

  • See the real issues at hand, and see them faster?

  • Remain focused on what's important?

  • Appreciate and leverage the differences in others?

  • Understand and appreciate your own communication and leadership style?

  • Achieve better results, faster?

  • Keep stress under control and keep your personal and professional life in balance?

  • Create a vision for yourself and your organization?

  • Create effective goals and develop and implement appropriate strategies?
